SSI Launches Year-Long Career Readiness Series for Students Interested in Sports Jobs
Students interested in building a career in sports will have a new opportunity to prepare throughout the academic year through the Sports and Society Institute’s Career Readiness Series.
SSI, in partnership with ASC Career Success, will offer five sessions during the 2026-27 academic year focused on helping students build the skills they need to pursue internships, make professional connections and prepare for careers across the sports industry.
Zach Howman of ASC Career Success will lead all sessions, which are open to Ohio State students interested in careers connected to sports.

The series begins Sept. 28 with a session focused on career readiness foundations, including how students can begin identifying possible career paths and preparing themselves for future opportunities.
From there, each session will focus on a specific part of the career preparation process:
| Date | Session | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| Sept. 28, 3 p.m. | Foundations | Building a foundation for a career in sports and identifying next steps |
| Oct. 26 | Resumes | Developing and strengthening a resume for sports-related opportunities |
| Nov. 16 | Interviewing & Dressing for Success | Interview preparation, professional attire, elevator pitches and communicating effectively with employers |
| Jan. 15 | Professional Presence | Networking, email etiquette, LinkedIn, professional conduct and follow-up |
| Feb. 26 | Internship Prep Session | Applications, cover letters, internship searches, deadlines and organizing the application process |
Sessions will take place on the third floor of Bricker Hall, with specific room information provided to registered students.
Rather than waiting until internship application season to begin preparing, the series is designed to help students develop their professional skills throughout the year. Students can attend individual sessions or participate in the full series.
The Career Readiness Series is also part of the SSI Sports Passport. Students who attend designated sessions can receive Passport credit as they work toward completing eight SSI and sports experiences during the academic year.
Through SSI’s partnership with ASC Career Success, students will also have opportunities to connect what they learn in each session with additional career coaching and resources available across the university.
Students interested in participating are encouraged to register in advance and indicate which sessions they plan to attend.
