SSI Awards First Sports-Focused Research Grants

Four Ohio State reseachers have been awarded $1,500 grants from the Sports and Society Initiative to facilitate research where sport and society intersect.

The winners are:

  • Peter Nencka, a PhD student in Economics, who will study "Play to Pay? Athletic Successes and College Economic Diversity".
  • Leeann M. Lower, an assistant professor in Sports Management, who will study, "The Collegiate Sport Club Model: Examining How Sport Clubs Impact Positive Student Outcomes".
  • Brian Turner (pictured), an associate professor in Sports Management, who will study "Sports apparel, voting ballots, and search engines: Consumer responses to athletes' political expressions".
  • Frances Sutton, a graduate fellow in Anthropology, who will study, "Consumption of American Football Among Muslim Women in Dearborn, Michigan".
SSI will be announcing a targeted research call in the 2018-2019 school year. Check back in September  for more information.
