Social Media Experts Join SSI for "Getting Social"

Social Media

The Ohio State Sport and Society Initiative joined with Ohio State Athletics Communication to host "Getting Social," on Feb. 29 to prepare students for careers in sports social media.

Nearly 40 students spent the day hearing from some of the most talented and creative minds in sports social media, including:

  • Dana Lewin, Carson Reider and Kylie Sturgill, Ohio State Athletics
  • Anthony Alloco, Columbus Blue Jackets
  • Matt Leininger, Columbus Clippers
  • Miles McQuinn, Cleveland Browns
  • Alison Lukan, The Athletic
  • Andy Schwepfinger, Columbus Crew

"Getting Social" (#getsocialosu) provided different perspectives and experience in the world of working in social media for students.Students learned different topics such as helping athletes with their social media, what to expecton a gameday, getting your foot in the door, and building their resume.“I feel like I really learned a lot from experts in the field.

"The event allowed me to connect with those in the field and make connections with them.”, said Gretchen Rudolph, a third-year studying communication and Spanish.

The experts in the field found it helpful as well, citing that making connections with others who have similar roles and hearing different viewpoints was beneficial.

A goal of the Sport and Society Initiative is to provicde students with experiences to help with career readiness and to effectively prepare them for a successful post-college life.
