With Creative Con right around the corner on April 14, let’s meet some of our presenters!

First up is Andy DeVito, director of creative and branding for the Ohio State University Department of Athletics. Andy will be speaking about what jobs exist in the sports creative field, how to get jobs in the creative field and interviewing for jobs on April 14 at Creative Con. Register here.

What are you most looking forward to about Creative Con?

I am looking forward to connecting with former colleagues, meeting new creative leaders and most importantly sharing my experiences in this field to hopefully provide guidance and knowledge for young creatives looking to advance their career.

What made you want to pursue your career?

I have always loved to draw. I remember getting the Sports Illustrated for Kids magazine and would immediately turn to the section where kids would submit drawings of their favorite athletes. I would look at those and redraw them on my own. That love of drawing continued, as well as my love for sports. As I got into college, I worked at our physical activity center and my boss would ask me to draw on our signage board to promote upcoming events. He then asked if I knew anything about the design field. I found out what it was and that’s where it all began.

What is some advice you would give to students looking to get into the sports creative field?

Identify those you aspire to be and reach out to them. Email, DM, whatever. We have a tight community that is always willing to help out and share knowledge. And work on your skills, especially typography.
