Doria named chair of SSI advisory board

The Sports and Society Initiative is honored to announce that Vince Doria, an alumnus of Ohio State's School of Journalism and former vice president and director of news at ESPN, has accepted the position as the first-ever chair of the SSI Advisory Board.
 
Doria, who now resides in Florida, had an extraordinary career in sports journalism and continues to inspire students with this experiences. He served as sports editor of the Boston Globe during the 1980s,and served as a senior editor for The National.
 
He moved to ESPN in 1992 and grew the news operation from scores and highlights to what he terms as a “cross-platform behemoth” that includes SportsCenter, Outside the Lines and E:60, as well as the company’s long-form journalism. He won 29 Emmys over the course of his career before retiring in 2015.
 
Doria is also a veteran of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Columbus (Ohio) Citizen-Journal and the Ashtabula (Ohio) Star-Beacon. 
 
He is one of SSI's original board members and will serve a two-year term as its first chair.
