SSI Huddles with the voices of the CBJ: Bob McElligott, Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre and Jeff Svoboda
Join Sports and Society for a special hockey Huddle with the some of voices who bring the Columbus Blue Jackets into our homes: radio voice Bob McElligott, studio host Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre and team journalist Jeff Svoboda.
McElligott joined the Blue Jackets in 2009 as a partner for George Matthews. he is now the lead broadcaster. McElligott has spent 10 seasons serving as broadcaster for the Syracuse Crunch, the Blue Jackets’ American Hockey League affiliate. In addition to calling the action on radio and television for the Crunch, he produced a regular Crunch feature for the Blue Jackets Radio Network and called play-by-play action during several Blue Jackets games.
Originally from Montreal, Grand-Pierre began playing professional hockey when he was 20 years old and appeared in 202 games with the club, registering four goals and 10 assists for 14 points with 239 penalty minutes between 2000-04. He also played for Buffalo, Atlanta and Washington and went on to play professionally in Sweden, Finland and Germany before retiring in 2013. He partners with Brian Giesenschlag on Blue Jackets Live pre- and post-game shows and intermissions during games televised on the network.
Jeff Svoboda, a graduate of Ohio State's journalism program, is former editor of Buckeye Sports Bulletin and a longtime hockey nut thanks to the Cleveland Lumberjacks. He writes on the CBJ for the team's website and NHL.com.
