SSI Hosts ESPN Radio College Football Tailgate Broadcast

The Friday night before the Texas–Ohio State game brought a unique opportunity for Ohio State students as ESPN Radio’s College Football Tailgate broadcast live from the Journalism Building.
The three-hour program, hosted by Amber Wilson and Jonathan Zaslow, gave students a behind-the-scenes look at national sports radio. The event was coordinated with Mike Urrunaga, program director at ESPN Radio, and Dr. Nicole Kraft, SSI director. COMM 3403 student Bryce Heck supported the show in the Journalism Building.
Members of Scarlet and Gray Sports Radio joined the production, meeting with ESPN staff and learning about the execution of large-scale broadcasts.
“This kind of access shows students the many different ways storytelling comes to life in sports,” Kraft said. “It reinforces the connection between the classroom and the real world of sports media.”
The College Football Tailgate tour will continue this fall at campuses across the country, offering students at each stop a chance to see the energy of college football through the lens of radio broadcasting.
