Kraft talks sports, journalism with OSU Newark students
SSI director Nicole Kraft visited the Ohio State University Newark campus Feb. 25 to meet with students interested in journalism and media careers. Kraft spoke about her own path in the sports journalism industry and shared insights into how journalism continues to evolve in a digital, fast-paced media environment.
She emphasized the importance of strong reporting fundamentals, relationship-building and ethical decision-making, encouraging students to see journalism not just as a job, but as a public service.
Kraft also introduced students to opportunities within the School of Communication, including coursework, experiential learning and involvement with The Lantern, Ohio State’s award-winning student news organization. She discussed how students can gain hands-on experience covering sports, build professional portfolios and prepare for internships and careers in media.
The visit provided Newark students with a clearer understanding of pathways into sports journalism and the practical steps they can take now to pursue those opportunities.
