2026-27 INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES--DEPARTMENT OF ATHLETICS  

BUCKEYE SPORT CAMPS (Ricky Frey.268) 

Position Description 

Prepares for and assists with sports camp logistics, including providing on-site support. Assists with administrative duties, including but not limited to: processing of camper registrations, preparation of payments for deposit, preparation and distribution of camper confirmation materials, filing of forms and assisting with customer service and camper communications. 

Desired Qualifications 

Excellent communication and customer service skills. Ability to organize and multi-task. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.  

COMMUNICATIONS (Emilia Frizzi.3) 

Position Description 

The athletics communications office handles public and media relations for all 36 Ohio State sports. Student assistants in the athletics communications office will assist on gamedays and during the week in various positions, including game statistics, writing previews and recaps, record keeping and social media. Work would  include both in the office and at events. 

Desired Qualifications 

Writing experience desired. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Ability to organize and multitask. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Must be available in the evenings and weekends. 

CREATIVE MEDIA - GRAPHIC DESIGN (Joe Gemma.15) 

Position Description 

Students will develop a portfolio with real-world experience, interfacing with department staff, while producing  content for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Works with the design team to develop creative content for digital and print applications. Students will also receive hands-on skill development to grow as a designer and communicator. 

Desired Qualifications 

Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop. Illustrator, InDesign), ability to work within brand guidelines and able to work in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should be able to execute multiple projects under tight deadlines. Great communication skills. 

CREATIVE MEDIA - VIDEO/PHOTO (Matt Fox.869 / Skyler Schmitt.102) 

Position Description 

Video & Photo student creators capture cinematic and high-quality footage and images for use in marketing and communications campaigns. Responsible for assisting in coverage at athletic team events and activities,  including the delivery of final assets for distribution on social media. May edit and produce video highlights, game-action photography, and team media day content. Performs post-production activities such as editing, mastering, and delivering to the necessary stakeholders. Responsibilities will be moderate, less routine, and will require good judgment. May coordinate activities for other student employees. Requires providing excellent customer service and strong organizational skills. 

Desired Qualifications 

Proficient in Adobe Premier Pro and Photoshop.Willing to work unconventional hours (nights and weekends).

DATA AND BUSINESS STRATEGY (Eddie Kendralla.2) 

Position Description 

The Athletics Business Data Student Analyst will support the Associate Athletic Director for Data and  Business Strategy with back-end and front-end data initiatives. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to,  data transformation/hygiene, statistical analysis and dashboard development.  

Desired Qualifications 

The ideal candidate has programming experience working in a relational database environment. Tableau or  Power BI experience preferred. 

DIGITAL MEDIA (Nick Artinian.4) 

Position Description 

Digital media students will assist in administering Ohio State athletics’ digital platforms, including social media accounts and the department website. Students will assist in the day-to-day content planning and creation for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, Giphy and TikTok. Students may have the opportunity to develop original content such as written messaging, hype videos, photos, GIFs and graphics specifically for Ohio State’s digital platforms. Students are also expected to attend a variety of events and provide real-time updates to fan bases. 

As members of our team, your responsibilities may include (but are not limited to): 

  • Monitor social media accounts during office hour shifts 

  • Build and edit graphics used on social media 

  • Build and update webpages using CMS 

  • Follow trends and brainstorm ideas to create content for Athletics and Brutus Buckeye accounts (TikTok,  Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, & YouTube) 

  • Gain a working knowledge of the University and Athletics social media policy 

  • Event coverage (You are required to work all Football home games), making sure all of our 36 varsity sports  are accurately covered with Photo/Video/Social needs  

  • Cover Events that are put on by Ohio State Athletics (Guest Speakers, Banquets, Discussions) • Video editing 

  • Create & edit content to use for Ohio State Athletics Social Media pages as well as specific team accounts. • Cover Press Conferences & Media availabilities for Ohio State Varsity Sports 

Desired Qualifications 

  • A current Ohio State student pursuing a degree in marketing, journalism, public relations, communications,  visual arts, graphic design, photography or related degree tracks 

  • Self-motivated enough to work remotely responsibly during designated “office” hours • Flexibility to periodically cover sporting events in the evenings and during the weekends • Familiar with Adobe Creative Suite and programs like Premiere, Photoshop, Lightroom, etc. • Keeps up with Social

EVENT MANAGEMENT (Tyler Eatman.3) 

Position Description 

Serves as a secondary event management staff member at events, assisting the primary event manager. Responsibilities may include coordinating athletic event staff, such as redcoats, ushers, security staff, ball kids, officials, and parking staff. May assist the championship manager in managing and coordinating needs for championships and tournaments being hosted by Ohio State Athletics.

Excellent communication and customer service skills. Ability to organize and multitask. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 

LIVE EVENTS (Derek Gross.512) 

Position Description 

Under the supervision of the Director, Student Assistants will work as a team to produce live videoboard shows for various athletic sporting events. Positions will vary depending on the sport and include, but are not limited to: Camera Operators, Replay Operators, Graphics/Video Playback, Video Switcher Operator/Technical Director, and Assisting with setup and teardown of video equipment. These positions work together to showcase live sporting events on in-venue video boards, execute sponsorship and promotional elements, and enhance the overall fan experience. 

  • Shift location will vary across different sites, including the Schottenstein Center, Ohio Stadium, Covelli  Center, and more. 

  • Shifts vary based on sporting event schedules, and require working evenings, possible late nights/weekends.

  • Previous experience is not required, but knowledge of video equipment, production, and a general understanding of sports are preferred.

MARKETING (McKinley Rogers.1929) 

Position Description 

Marketing student interns will assist the Athletic Marketing staff in planning and executing marketing and promotional efforts for multiple varsity sports, including in-game entertainment and sponsored elements.  Assist with public address announcers, music, video board features, spirit groups, and promotions to enhance the fan experience. Students may have opportunities for professional development while assisting with special events, developing promotional ideas, and supporting efforts to promote athletic events across the campus community. 

As members of our team, your responsibilities may include (but not limited to): 

  • Assist the Ohio State Athletic Marketing staff in the development, coordination, and implementation of marketing and promotional efforts for all 32 sports, and any specific sport to which you are assigned. • Attend scheduled intern staff meetings, intern huddle meetings and optional intern development events. • Research promotional and marketing materials & ideas 

  • Assist with managing public address announcers, coordinating music, video board elements, cheer squad,  pep band, and other marketing needs to direct the flow of games, events and promotions as needed. • Work special events, such as Spring Showcase, Stadium Series, etc. 

  • Fulfill sponsored elements such as PA announcements, promotions, and events 

  • Improve the atmosphere at each event through the use of games, giveaways, contests, trivia and music, etc. • Promote athletic events and communicate promotions within the campus community 

Desired Qualifications 

  • A current Ohio State student pursuing a degree in marketing or related degree tracks. • Self-motivated to work responsibly during designated office hours 

  • Able to communicate professionally with peers, supervisors, and fans 

OHIO STATE EVENTS & EXPERIENCES (Kelly Mulhern.19) 

Position Description 

The Ohio State Events & Experiences Intern will support the launch and ongoing operations of a new campus-wide venues-and-events initiative at Ohio State. This position offers hands-on experience in event operations, marketing, business development, and venue management while working alongside professionals who support meetings, conferences, and large-scale events across campus. This role is ideal for a student  interested in event planning, marketing, hospitality, communications, or sports/event management who is  eager to gain real-world experience in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. 

Desired Qualifications 

Current student at The Ohio State University 

Interest in event management, marketing, communications, hospitality, or sports/event management • Strong organizational and communication skills 

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines 

  • Self-starter who is comfortable working both independently and collaboratively 

  • Familiarity with social media platforms and basic content creation is a plus 

  • Strong writing, communications, or graphic design skills are preferred; experience with tools such as Canva,  Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms is a plus 

Minimum of 8 hours per week, max of 28 hours. Application deadlines will be communicated by the unit leader.
