What exact changes are looming and what will they mean, featuring Fedlam, Dr. Karen Weaver of Drexel University and former Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett.  Episode 2 (May 19): Brand Equity: How will NIL opportunities and money from brands get disseminated to college student-athletes? With two-time WNBA champion Renee Montgomery and Martin Nance of Gatorade Episode 3 (May 26): Getting prepared: How can student-athletes and athletic departments prepare for what is to come with Courtney Altemus of TeamAltemus and Buckdeye and NFL veteran Joshua Perry. Registration is required, so please sign up to join us. One registration will allow access to all three session.    Our speakers: Courtney Altemus Courtney started TeamAltemus in 2017 to provide financial advisor due diligence and financial literacy education for athletes within collegiate and professional sports organizations. After a few decades on Wall Street, first as an investment banker then private wealth manager, Courtney decided to start her own unbiased consulting firm that doesn’t manage money nor is it associated with any companies that do.   TeamAltemus, instead of managing assets, helps client’s take charge of their financial futures. The team focuses on financial literacy education, due diligence of advisors and technology to provide expert summaries and ongoing monitoring. TeamAltemus wants to change the narrative to “athletes and money, only positive stories.”   Courtney brings a unique and valuable skill set of extensive study and experience in finance (MBA Finance) and human behavior (BS Organizational Behavior Management, English minor) from La Salle University. She has served on the Alumni and Business Advisory Boards at La Salle University and as an advisor to the World Series of Entrepreneurship and Anderson Monarchs. J.T. Barrett J.T. Barrett is one of the most acclaimed quarterbacks in Ohio State history. He guided the Buckeyes to a tremendous 2014 season that led to a College Football National Championship.   The three-time team captain, Barrett was a three-time winner of the Big Ten Conference’s Griese-Brees Quarterback of the Year. Luke Fedlam Luke is a personal, non-agent sports attorney with more than 15 years of experience, focused on protecting and educating professional athletes at any phase of their career. As a Partner at Porter Wright, Luke leads the firm’s sports Law Practice, regularly advising a range of clients across the country – from student athletes transitioning into professional sports, professional athletes navigating life on a team, to retiring athletes creating the game plan for their life after sports.   In 2015, Luke created Anomaly Sports Group to transform his daily work with athletes, families and advisors into educational programs for athletes at all levels. With a shared passion for athlete protection and professional development, Porter Wright works in tandem with Anomaly as an educational resource, consulting with both collegiate and professional sports organizations on student–athlete development and player engagement programming. Luke received his J.D. from The Ohio State University and B.A. from Wake Forest University. Renee Montgomery Renee is a star player for the Atlanta Dream of the Women's National Basketball Association.   She won national championships with the UConn Huskies in 2009, and with the Minnesota Lynx in 2015 and 2017.   Renee's career extends far beyond the basketball court, as she serves as a basketball analyst, and works as an actor, host and motivational speaker. Martin Nance Martin has spent nearly eight years with Gatorade as a Brand Marketer.  He currently leads the Gatorade Athlete Activation Team as a director of marketing. Martin oversees aspects of field marketing, channel marketing, and equipment strategy. Additionally, he has led production and execution of several of Gatorade’s largest global advertising campaigns.  Martin also engages his passion for creating opportunities for others through his community engagement and social outreach.   Before transitioning into business leadership, Martin spent four years as a wide receiver in the National Football League, earning a Super Bowl ring as a member of the 2008-2009 Pittsburgh Steelers.  Immediately following his NFL career, he completed his MBA at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business.  He holds a bachelor's degree in accountancy from Miami University. Joshua Perry After graduating from Olentangy High School, Joshua went on to become a 4 year letter winner for the OSU football team. He earned many accolades including the inaugural CPF National Championship, All-Big Ten Honors, 2015 Big Ten Outstanding Sportsmanship award and he was elected captain by his teammates.   Joshua was drafted to the NFL in 2016 and retired in 2018 after playing for two seasons. Now Joshua is a studio analyst for Big Ten Network’s football programming, a local resin host, a real estate agent and he runs his own charity, The Joshua Perry Family Foundation.    He is a board member of the Sports and Society Initiative. Dr. Karen Weaver A former Division I and III National Championship head coach and director of athletics, Karen joined Drexel’s department of sport management in 2012. Her research interests include college sports media and finance, broadcast television media rights and rights holders, governance issues and social media and marketing. She has written numerous articles on the impact media rights are having on college sports. Additionally, Weaver serves as a consultant to the Knight Commission for Intercollegiate Athletics, which ensures that intercollegiate athletics programs operate within the educational mission of their colleges and universities. Martin has spent nearly eight years with Gatorade as a Brand Marketer.  He currently leads the Gatorade Athlete Activation Team as a director of marketing.
